How Do I Initiate a Multi-party Video Call?
A multi-party video call allows you to connect to more than one buddy in a video call.
Initiating a Multi-party Video Call with Buddy List
- Click the Buddy List that appears on the lower right hand side corner of the Convergence window. The Messenger buddy list appears.
- Select an online buddy with a green (online) status.
- Double-click the buddy so that the chat message box opens.
- To add a buddy to the call, click the double arrow icon under the chat, phone, video, share screen, and transfer call icons.
- You can add a buddy at any time during the call.
Note - You can add up to 5 buddies to the call.
- From the row of icons (chat, phone, video, screen share, and transfer call) on the top right corner of the chat message box, click the video icon.
Your web browser might display a message requesting permission to share your camera and microphone with the Convergence server. Allow the server to share your camera and microphone.
- Your buddies receive a pop-up invitation with your video call request that they can accept or reject. They should accept the invitation to be included on the call. The chat message box changes to a group chat box.
- If any of your buddies decline your call, you might either see a message that your buddy has declined the call or that your buddy is busy.
- Move the volume bar to the desired volume.
- Click the pause icon to put a call on hold. You can initiate a call with another buddy when you put the multi-party video call on hold. See: How Do I Place a Call on Hold? While they are on hold, the buddies can continue the video call.
- To resume the call, click the resume icon.
- Click the microphone icon to mute or unmute the calls.
- You can also share your screen on a multi-party video call. See: How Do I Share My Screen?
- If buddies exit the call, it is not disconnected until you (as the initiator of the call) end the call.
- To end the call, click the hang up icon (red phone).
