How Do I Send a Chat Message?

To send a chat message, perform the following steps:

1. Double-click a buddy with whom you want to initiate a chat conversation.

   You can also initiate a chat conversation by selecting a buddy name and clicking the Chat icon from the IM toolbar, or selecting Chat from the context window.

   A new window appears.

2. Enter your text in the message box.

   You can edit your text using the rich text editor.

   The rich text editor contains the following options:

   • Font

   • Size

   • Bold

   • Italics

   • Underline

   • Text Color

   • Highlight Color

   • Emoticon

3. Click Send or press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.

You can minimize the chat window by clicking the minimize icon. The buddy appears as a button in the same panel as the Buddy List button. To reopen the chat window, click the buddy. The buddy displays the name and status of the buddy. When the chat window is minimized, the buddy is highlighted whenever you receive a chat message. The IM panel, along with the buddy options appears in the Calendar, Address Book, Messages, and Options modules.

If a message is received from a buddy with whom you have not initiated a conversation, then a highlighted chat gets added to the IM panel. You must click chat to display the chat window.
